Martha's Vineyard

I just returned from a marvelous weekend away with my best friend Kelsey and her mom Linda, who graciously hosted me in her home in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard. The mini vacation was the perfect getaway after a stressful stint at work.

Throughout the weekend we basked in the sun (minus Hurricane Arthur's impeding presence during one day), took yoga classes, and ate our tuckus' off.

Here are a few of our culinary highlights:

My friend and colleague Melissa recently roasted radishes and raved about them, so when Linda uncovered these gorgeous and vibrant purple radishes, violet spring onions, and delicate finger-like carrots, I knew right away we needed to roast these puppies. We simply sprinkled the vegetables with olive oil, Himalayan pink sea salt, and pepper, and roasted them at 425 degrees for 20 minutes.

It's a tradition to create our favorite sandwich, which is comprised of Arnold's rye bread, globs of mayo, heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, cheddar slabs, salt, and pepper, and thinly sliced red onion. Sometimes I add Pam's Provisions Pesto, the best ever and locally made.

Another yearly tradition is lobster night. This year, we had our lobsters steamed and cracked for us, but we also had the smarts to buy two extra to make our own lobster roles/sandwiches the following day on buttered brioche. We mixed the tender meat with mayo, lemon, salt, pepper, and a few shakes of cayenne pepper. They were amazing!

Another particularly amazing highlight was the ocean-fresh Katama Bay oysters we slurped down. They tasted like the sea and were some of the best variety I have ever had.

For dessert, we feasted on organic strawberries with these addictive dark chocolate toffee crunch pieces, aka heaven called New Moon Magick, also crafted locally.

So if you're planning on going to the lovely Vineyard this summer, please let me know as I have a ton of recommendations!
